Already an acknowledged expert in the health-care field, Fern will bring her experience to Harrisburg to work to solve the ongoing health-care crisis in Pennsylvania. But as important an issue as health care is, it is far from the only area Kaufman expects to have an impact.

Property taxes and easing the burden on the homeowner to finance a good educational system with high property taxes. By working with the legislature and the Governor, steps should be taken to ease this financial burden, especially in this time of economic crisis where people need more money at home to take care of their families.

Unchecked crime is some of the areas of the district. By working with local law enforcement and listening to the needs of the neighborhood leaders, steps should be taken to provide a safe, drug-free environment for all.

Preserving open space in the district with commercial expansion only in a mutually agreed upon and mutually beneficial fashion that will serve to offer necessary goods and services while increasing property values and limiting unnecessary and business focused building.

Regulating the building industry in the state so that the apparent alliances with local government to the benefit of the builder are called into question. It is time for the state to take care of the people and not corporate greed.

Pennsylvania has become a focal point for animal cruelty in terms of the percentage of puppy mills operating in the state. While sound, safe and humane breeding of animals is acceptable, inhumane treatment of animals is not only cruel but is a reflection on all of the citizens of a Pennsylvania. While the Governor has taken important steps in transforming this practice, there is still much work to be done to look after all of God's creatures.
